‘Naram Kaalja’ song from Imtiaz Ali’s Amar Singh Chamkila out

Naram Kaalja’ song from Imtiaz Ali’s upcoming film, Amar Singh Chamkila was released by the makers on Thursday. It features many women in Punjab grooving on the song. Composed by AR Rahman, the song features vocals by Alka Yagnik, Richa Sharma, Pooja Tiwari and Yashika Sikka. The lyrics are written by Irshad Kamil.

The music video begins with some women complaining if they listen to the songs of Amar Singh Chamkila who isn’t shy in describing certain things about women in his verses. Later, many young girls secretly listen to the song as they sing it to the camera. There is a fruitful blend of traditional folk melodies with contemporary beats in the music which features additional vocals by Pinky Maidasani, Shifa Ruby and Meenu Kale.

Amar Singh Chamkila is a biopic of the titular Punjabi musician, who, along with his wife Amarjot Kaur, was assassinated in 1988. While Diljit Dosanjh will play the role of Amar Singh, Parineeti Chopra will essay the role of Amarjot in the film. Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the film will be released on Netflix on April 12.
