Nana Patekar opened up in an interview with Lallantop and spoke of his dislike for director-producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, saying that whenever he meets him, he wishes it was the last time he would do so. Nana collaborated with Vidhu for the 1989 gangster-drama Parinda, which also starred Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, and Madhuri Dixit in pivotal roles.

Speaking about Vidhu during the interview, Nana said, “I don’t like Vidhu Vinod Chopra. I have no control over my anger. I am still the same. That aspect of my life hasn’t changed yet.”

Elaborating on the importance of silence when he is doing a scene, he added, “Every scene has its setting, tune, and note. There is a way to talk. While doing Parinda, I was in the character, so when the director says, ‘Lights, camera, clap’, and aggressively calls, ‘action’, it distorts your internal rhythm.”

Saying that it irked him whenever Vidhu did that on the sets of the film, Nana reflected, “When someone shouts, we forget the note that is required for the scene and unknowingly pick what the director says. Just say ‘action’ calmly. Let us get into our character and note. It is because of this we must have had a tiff. I have very bad memories of him (Vidhu Vinod Chopra) and even his habits.”

Later, Nana looked to the camera, addressing Vidhu and said that he doesn’t want to say all this behind his back. “I want to tell you all this to your face and not behind your back,” Nana said.

The host asked him about the last time that he met the director, to which Nana replied, “Whenever I meet him, I want it to be the last time.”

Nana won the National Award for Best Supporting Actor for the film. It was also India’s official selection for the 1990 Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film but didn’t make it to the nominations.
