Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor’s Mr. & Mrs. Mahi will be released on Netflix on July 26 at midnight. The sports-drama is directed by Sharan Sharma and written by him along with Nikhil Mehrotra. It also stars Kumud Mishra in a pivotal role.

It tells the story of Mahendra and Mahima, played by Rajkummar and Janhvi, meeting each other for marriage prospects. Love blooms between them and they tie the knot. Both then discover a shared love for cricket. Rajkummar failed at being a cricketer and has a disapproving father (played by Kumud Mishra). When he sees Janhvi hitting a straight drive, he is convinced she should venture into sports, although she is not exactly interested. What begins is a complex tale, where Rajkummar’s character tries to vicariously live his dream through Janhvi.

The film was released in theatres on May 31 and according to Sacnilk.com, it collected over Rs 36.34 (India Nett) crore at the box-office. Its worldwide collection stands at Rs 51.95 crore.

The film is produced by Karan Johar, Zee Studios, Hiroo Yash Johar and Apoorva Mehta. Our review of the film read, “Mr. & Mrs. Mahi, at most, is a shake-up to the tired genre of sports films in Hindi cinema. It is not exactly a patriotic story or a feminist tale. What it’s trying to tell is that fame is fickle but passion stays. That real joy comes from the act of doing something and not being applauded for it. That while telling a story of an insecure, devious man, makers still can’t afford to punish him too much. That women still need to be told by men to find their calling. That mothers know everything. That there is far too much to tell but nothing to convey.”
