Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain’s band Shakti has won the Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album at the 66th Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles. The award was given to their music album ‘This Moment’.

The band Shakti features English guitarist John McLaughlin, Indian violin player Ganesh Rajgopalan, percussionists Zakir Hussain and Selvaganesh Vinayakram and vocalist Shankar Mahadevan. ‘This Moment’ is the third studio album by the band and features a total of 8 songs. It is their first release in 46 years after the 1977 album ‘Natural Elements’.

‘This Moment’ was released on June 30, 2023. Each member of the band reportedly recorded their portion of the songs separately from their respective home cities.
