Sonu Sood recently opened up about being offered the position of chief minister from politicians but the actor turned it down. Sonu’s humanitarian work during the Covid-19 lockdown helped people across the country in various ways, as he transported food, arranged means of transport for people to go back to their homes.

After this, there were reports floating online which suggested that the actor may enter politics. Speaking about this in an interview with Humans of Bombay, Sonu said, “I was even offered the position of Chief Minister. When I turned it down, they suggested, ‘Why not Deputy Chief Minister?’ Some of the most influential people in the country were behind these offers, including a seat in the Rajya Sabha. They said, ‘Join us, you don’t need to fight elections, just be with us.'”

He added, “Politics, for many, is about gaining wealth or power. Neither of those things interest me. I am already helping people in my own way, without needing to answer to anyone. If I were in politics, I would be accountable to someone, and that’s something that scares me. I like my freedom to help others without any strings attached.”

He has, however, not entirely ruled out the possibility. “Maybe, one day, when I feel I have accomplished everything in this field (acting), I’ll think about other paths. But for now, I am focused on acting and directing, and that’s where my heart lies,” he said.

Sonu’s next film, Fateh marks his first as a director, as he also plays the titular role in it. Also starring Jacqueliene Fernandez, Naseeruddin Shah and Vijay Raaz in pivotal roles, the film is set to be released in theatres on January 10.
