Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light bags two nominations at the Golden Globes 2025

The film earlier won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival this year

Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light has been nominated in the category of Best Motion Picture - (Non-English Language) and Best Director (Motion Picture) at the Golden Globes 2025. She has become the first Indian filmmaker to be nominated in the Best Director category after 26 years since Shekhar Kapoor bagged the nomination for Elizabeth in 1998.

Other films that have been nominated in the Best Motion Picture – (Non-English Language) category are Emilia Perez, The Girl with the Needle, I'm Still Here, The Seed of the Sacred Fig, Vermiglio. Similarly, the other nominees for Best Director (Motion Picture) along with Payal, include Jacques Audiard for Emilia Perez, Sean Baker for Anora, Edward Berger for Conclave, Brady Corbet, The Brutalist and Coralie Fargeat for The Substance.

All We Imagine As Light had earlier won the Best International Film at New York Film Critics Circle. It was also named as the year’s best film by the prestigious magazine Sight and Sound.

The film revolves around two Malayali nurses, played by Divya Prabha and Kani Kusruti, in Mumbai, and tells a story of their dreams and aspirations. It also stars Chhaya Kadam of Laapataa Ladies fame and Hridhu Haroon.

All We Imagine As Light hit theatres across India on November 22 after its limited release in Kerala in September.
