The trailer of Ananya Panday’s debut series Call Me Bae was unveiled on Tuesday. Directed by Collin D' Cunha, the series also features Vir Das, Gurfateh Pirzada, Varun Sood, Vihaan Samat, Muskkaan Jaferi, Niharika Lyra Dutt, Lisa Mishra, and Mini Mathur in pivotal roles. The show has been created by Ishita Moitra, known for penning the script of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.

The trailer takes us into the good life of Bella 'Bae' Chowdhary, an heiress from Delhi. Born in extreme privilege, she has everything going on for her, servants, luxurious cars, branded outfits, the works. But this fish is soon pulled out of the calm waters once her privilege is taken away. Now she has to move to Mumbai, take up a job, rent an apartment and struggle like a commoner.

The series is a Dharmatic Entertainment production with Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra serving as executive producers.

"From the get go, I knew Call Me Bae was a project I wanted to be a part of. Even without having heard the script I knew this was going to be something special,” said actor Ananya Panday. “As an actor, it is always exciting and rewarding to play a multi-layered character like Bae. Despite the challenges she faces, she remains true to herself, retaining her innocence and zest for life. This authenticity is what drew me to the role."

“While there have been many stories that follow the rags-to-riches trope, Call Me Bae offers a fresh twist by turning the genre on its head. It centres on a young woman from a privileged background, where extravagance was a birthright, who, due to unforeseen circumstances, must now navigate life on her own and hustle and reinvent herself in the bustling city of Mumbai,” added Karan Johar.

Talking about Bae as a character, director Collin said, “What truly captivated me was her unique personality and unwavering determination—qualities that I believe will make her an unforgettable icon.”

Call Me Bae starts streaming on Amazon Prime Video on September 6.
