Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor’s horror-comedy Stree 2 had a massive opening at the box office. The Amar Kaushik directorial, also starring Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee and Aparshakti Khurana, had preview shows on Wednesday evening but was properly released on Thursday. As per Sacnilk.com, Stree 2 collected Rs 8.35 crore on Wednesday and Rs 45.75 crore on Thursday, taking its total to Rs 54.1 crore.

With this Day 1 collection, the film has surpassed the first Friday haul of last year’s mega blockbuster Gadar 2 which opened at Rs 40.1 crore. Stree 2 has also become the biggest Hindi opener of the year, surpassing the opening of Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone starrer Fighter, which had collected Rs 24.6 crore on its first day.  Kalki 2898AD, which released across multiple languages including Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, however, still remains the biggest Indian opener of 2024 at Rs 95 crore.

Stree 2 clashed with John Abraham and Sharvari’s Vedaa, which also released in Tamil and Telugu, but could only reap Rs 6.52 crore, and Akshay Kumar starrer Khel Khel Mein which minted only Rs 5 crore.

Stree 2, produced by Dinesh Vijan, is part of Maddock Productions’ Supernatural Universe which includes films like Stree (2018), Bhediya (2022) and Munjya (2024). Munjya, despite having no big stars, managed to become the third highest grosser of the year at Rs 107.48 crore, just behind Shaitaan (Rs 149.49 crore) and Fighter (Rs 199.45 crore).
