The film is set to be released on September 6

Actor and BJP Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut will be seen playing former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in Emergency. As the title suggests, the film will follow the events leading to and subsequent to the declaration of emergency, which is described as the "darkest period" in post-independent Indian political history.

The trailer shows certain crucial political developments during the Indira Gandhi regime, like the India-Pakistan War, the Shimla Agreement, declaration of emergency, and the demand of Khalistan, which eventually leads to her assassination. Dialogues like "Indira Gandhi takes decisions politically and not in the interest of the nation" clearly hint that the film will highlight the leader's negative side.

The film stars Anupam Kher, Satish Kaushik, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade and Vishak Nair. Noted writer Ritesh Shah has penned the screenplay and dialogue of the film.

Emergency is produced by Kangana Ranaut, Renu Pitti and Umesh KR Bansal.

The film’s release has been delayed multiple times before. It was earlier set to release in November last year but was delayed. Then, June 14 was set as the new release date, which had to be postponed as well. It is now set to be released on September 6.
