Actor Richa Chadha’s character in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar was introduced by the makers via a video clip on Thursday. Richa will play a lovelorn courtesan Lajjo in the period drama series.

In the video, the actor can be seen lounging on a diwan bed aching for a drop of wine from a goblet. A voiceover in Richa’s voice ensues. “Sometimes I got desperate for a drop, sometimes I got desperate in love,” she says. “Lajjo is an escort whose folly was to fall in love.”

Apart from Richa, the show also stars Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sonakshi Sinha, Sharmin Sehgal and Sanjeeda Sheikh. It will also mark the comebacks of Fardeen Khan, Shekhar Suman and his son Adhyayan Suman.

Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar will premiere on Netflix on May 1.
