Shekhar Suman’s character promo from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s debut OTT series Heeramandi – The Diamond Bazaar was released by the makers on Wednesday. The series marks Shekhar’s comeback to acting after over 7 years since his last appearance in the film Bhoomi (2017). Besides him, the series also stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sharmin Sehgal, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Fardeen Khan, and Adhyayan Suman.

The promo features him in heavy costumes as he mouths some dialogues. He plays the role of Zulfikar in the series, who is the head of a princely state in British India. Towards the end of the promo, he says looking into the camera, "Zulfikar makes his own rules.”

Speaking about working with Bhansali in the series, Shekhar said in a press release, “If you work with the best, you give your best and the best happens. Mr. Bhansali is a phenomenon, an auteur, a virtuoso. It's an experience of a lifetime working with him. An accomplished filmmaker with an illustrious career, he is at par with directors like K. Asif, Kamal Amrohi, Guru Dutt and Mehboob Khan. As an actor I am overwhelmed and exhilarated to be a part of this colossus magnum opus."

Earlier, the trailer of the series was released which introduced its glittery world set in the red-light district of Heeramandi in Lahore during the British Raj. During Partition, troubles increase for the escorts who run Heeramandi as factions are created leading to complexities and chaos.

Heeramandi will be released on Netflix on May 1.
