The teaser of Kiran Rao's upcoming directorial Laapataa Ladies has been unveiled.
The 1.08-minute-long teaser starts with the protagonist Deepak Kumar filing a complaint at the police station stating that he lost his bride while travelling on the train. We also see another man filing a complaint about the same. The rest of the teaser shows the two husbands searching for their brides.
The synopsis reads, "Set in 2001, somewhere in rural India, LOST LADIES is about the delightful adventures of two young brides who get accidentally swapped on a train. In the ensuing chaos, they each encounter a host of colourful characters, resulting in hilarious and unexpected consequences."
It also says, "The young lost ladies must take it upon themselves to venture on an endearing journey: one of immense discovery about themselves and womanhood; and the heartwarming and heartbreaking nature of life itself."
This will be Kiran’s second directorial after over a decade. She directed the 2010 film Dhobi Ghat, which starred Aamir along with Prateik Babbar and Monica Dogra.
The film stars Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan in lead roles. Based on a story by Biplab Goswami, the film’s screenplay and dialogues are written by Sneha Desai with additional dialogues by Divyanidhi Sharma.
Laapataa Ladies, jointly produced by Kiran’s ex-husband Aamir Khan, and Jyoti Deshpande, will hit the theatres on January 5, 2024, before the film will be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) which will be held from September 7 to September 17. The film is presented by Jio Studios.
