The makers of Akshay Kumar’s upcoming film Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue released its teaser today. The film, directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, also stars Parineeti Chopra.

In the teaser, we see miners stuck in a coal mine. One of the miners is played by Ravi Kishan. Trouble looms as the mine starts flooding. Akshay Kumar is seen, spectacled, with a red turban tied around his head, as Jaswant Singh Gill. He takes up the mantle to be the saviour of the miners.

As per reports, the film was initially called Capsule Gill which was later changed to The Great Indian Rescue. Now, amid the ongoing debate on India changing its name to Bharat, finally the makers are going with the name Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue.

The film is based on the life of engineer Jaswant Singh Gill who, in 1989, saved the lives of 65 miners stuck in Mahabir colliery in West Bengal’s Raniganj. Gill devised a special steel capsule using which the miners were rescued. He was awarded with the Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak for his bravery by the then President of India, Ramaswamy Venkataraman, in 1991.

It is produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh, Jackky Bhagnani and Ajay Kapoor. Mission Raniganj will be released in theatres on October 6.
