The trailer of Netflix’s survival drama series Kaala Paani was unveiled recently. The show stars Mona Singh, filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, Sukant Goel and Amey Wagh among others. It is directed by Sameer Saxena and Amit Golani and written by him, along with Biswapati Sarkar, Sandeep Saket and Nimisha Mishra.

The show is set in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. A strange, probably water-borne, disease has spread in the area. This plunges its inhabitants into a frantic struggle for survival as they are confined by the vast sea. As the race to discover a cure intensifies, desperation mounts, and the islands’ fate hangs in the balance, the only way out is to establish that they are the fittest to survive the befalling calamity.

The series title alludes to the colonial-era Cellular Jail housed on the islands. Produced by Posham Pa Pictures, it is set to be released on October 18.
