Adipurush, the pan-Indian film starring Prabhas, was released on Friday. Directed by Om Raut, the film is an adaptation of the epic Indian mythology Ramayana. According to the makers, on the first day of the release, the film grossed Rs 140 crores at the global box office. The film has Prabhas as Ram, Kriti Sanon as Sita, Sunny Singh as Lakshman, Devdatta Nage as Hanuman, and Saif Ali Khan as Raavan.
The film opened to underwhelming responses from critics. An excerpt from the Cinema Express review reads, "In this film just short of three hours, there are few minutes of visual joys, and even fewer emotional payoffs. Ramayana is about obsession and revenge and honour and heartbreak… But this adaptation is emotionally as vacant as Prabhas’ eyes."
Though originally a Hindi language film, Adipurush was released in all major South Indian languages. Adipurush is produced by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar of T-Series with Om Raut's home production Retrophiles. While Karthik Palani is the cinematographer, the edit is done by Apurva Motiwale, Sahai, and Ashish Mhatre.
