Director Shekhar Kapur’s latest film What’s Love Got To Do With It received nine nominations, including for Best Director, at the British National Film Awards. The nominations were announced earlier this week.

Set between London and South Asia, the film features Emma Thompson, Lily James, Shazad Latif and veteran Indian actor Shabana Azmi among others. It revolves around a filmmaker (Lily James) who documents his neighbour and childhood friend’s (Shazad Latif) arranged marriage to a Pakistani girl.

Written and produced by Jemima Khan, the film is Kapur's first feature since Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007). It was also the director’s first collaboration with Shabana Azmi since his 1983 seminal work, Masoom, the sequel of which was titled Masoom…The New Generation was recently announced by the filmmaker.
