The Trial trailer: Kajol plays a lawyer in a predicament of representing her cheating husband

Directed by Suparn Verma, the show is the Indian adaptation of Julianna Margulies starrer international series The Good Wife

Kajol is set to make her web series debut with The Trial: Pyaar, Kanoon, Dhoka, the trailer of which was released on Monday. Directed by Suparn Verma (The Family ManRana Naidu), the show is the Indian adaptation of Julianna Margulies-starrer international series The Good Wife. Apart from Kajol, The Trial also stars Sheeba Chaddha, Jisshu Sengupta, Alyy Khan, Kubra Sait and Gaurav Pandey in prominent roles.

The trailer shows Jisshu Sengupta as Judge Rajeev Sengupta who gets arrested for accepting sexual favours as a bribe. He leaves behind his wife Noyonika (Kajol) and two daughters. Noyonika moves on with her life and returns to work as a lawyer. She is aided by her college friend (Alyy Khan). The firm she is working for is headed by Sheeba Chaddha and has Kubra Sait as a consultant. We see Kajol’s Noyonika fight several cases and make fervent appeals in court but she is left in a moral dilemma when her husband calls her to represent him in his bribe case.

Disney Plus Hotstar recently released a motion poster of the show with Kajol dressed in a lawyer’s robe. As a kickstart to the promotions, the actor had even archived all her social media posts, writing that she’s taking a break from the platform. She posted a picture with the text, “Facing one of the toughest trials of my life.”

The Good Wife started airing in the US in 2009 and went on for seven seasons. The show followed a woman named Alicia Florrick whose politician husband gets caught in a sex scandal while she has to stand by him, whilst also restarting her career as a lawyer.
