Abhishek Bachchan and Saiyami Kher’s sports drama Ghoomer will have its premiere at the 14th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM). The R Balki directorial will be the opening film at the festival, which will be held from August 11 to August 20.

Ghoomer tells a triumphant story of a paraplegic sports person, portrayed by Saiyami, who excels as a cricketer under the guidance of her coach, played by Abhishek. Apart from Abhishek and Saiyami, the film also stars Shabana Azmi and Angad Bedi.

“It’s indeed an honour and pleasure for us that Ghoomer will be the opening film at the IFFM,” said Abhishek and Balki in a joint statement.

Talking about her role, Saiyami said, “Playing a sport on screen was always my dream, I have been manifesting it since I started acting. I’m so glad it’s finally come true. For me this film is much beyond the sport. It’s a story of triumph in extreme adversity. It has been the most physically and emotionally demanding film I have done.”

The film is inspired by the story of Karoly Takacs, the late Hungarian right-hand shooter who won two Olympic gold medals with his left hand after his other hand was seriously injured.
