Kangana Ranaut has described her new directorial, the 1970s-set biographical political drama Emergency, as a 'musical'. 

The actor-director revealed the film has got five songs in total, including one that lasts ten minutes. She expressed surprise that people don't expect songs in the movie. Emergency stars Kangana as former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film's music is composed by GV Prakash. The choreographer is Kruti Mahesh (Padmaavat, Street Dancer 3D). 

Posting pictures from the sets, Kangana wrote on Instagram Stories, "Choreographer on set today... director can take it easy ha ha... by the way we have five songs on Emergency; it's a musical drama (performing arts emoji). I don't know why people don't expect songs in Emergency... I love music, I might just have the longest song ever above 10 minutes... For interval block... And great music @gvprakash."

The picture also features Emergency's Japanese cinematographer Tetsuo Nagata. Kangana was last seen in the action thriller Dhaakad (2022). Besides Emergency, she has Tejas and Chandramukhi 2 (Tamil) in the offing.
