Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 has entered the Rs 100-crore club in just three days of its release. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned about Rs 52 crore on Sunday. It had opened at Rs 40.10 crore on Friday (August 11) and made Rs 43 crore nett the next day. This takes the total collection of the film to Rs 135.10 crore.

To put things in perspective, Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan–which was released on January 25, Wednesday– had its three-day collection of around Rs 161 cr (Hindi), with its second day recording the highest ever single-day collection of Rs 68 cr nett on account of Republic Day. In its five-day extended weekend, Pathaan earned Rs 271 cr. Trade experts say Gadar 2 will also be benefited due to the upcoming Independence Day holiday. The film has already become the highest-grossing in Sunny Deol’s career.

Gadar 2 clashed with Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi starrer OMG 2. In comparison, the latter made Rs 43.56 crore in three days since its release.

Gadar 2 is the sequel of Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, which was released in 2001. The romantic period action-drama film was directed by Anil Sharma and set during the Partition of India in 1947. The film starred Sunny Deol and Amisha Patel in lead roles alongside Amrish Puri and Lillete Dubey. 

In Gadar 2, the film is set in 1971, and Tara Singh returns to Lahore, Pakistan in the midst of an anti-India "Crush India" campaign to bring back his son Charanjeet aka Jeete. The sequel is also directed by Anil. It also stars Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma.
