Google commemorates the 60th birthday of actor Sridevi with a doodle

Sunday marked the 60th birthday of the late, legendary actor Sridevi. Marking the occasion, the search engine giant Google celebrates the actor's birthday with a colourful doodle dedicated to her. The illustration was designed by Mumbai-based artist Bhumika Mukherjee. 

Born on August 13, 1962, as Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan in Tamil Nadu, Sridevi made her acting debut at the age of 4 in the 1969 film Thunaivan as lord Muruga. Then the actor went on to star in more than three hundred films in all major Indian languages, including Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu and Kannada, spanned over 50 years in a range of genres from slapstick comedy to epic dramas.

Sridevi debuted as a female lead in  K Balachander's directorial Moondru Mudichu, opposite Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth, at the age of 13, in 1976. She quickly established herself as one of the prominent and leading female stars of South Indian Cinema, with roles in 16 Vayathinile, Thulavarsham, Angeekaaram, Sigappu Rojakkal, and Padaharella Vayasu, among others. 

Sridevi, who was established as a front-runner in the 80s and 90s of Hindi cinema, debuted with the 1975 film Julie. And went on to bag immense credit in her name, including, Himmatwala, Mr India,  Chandni, Sadma, and  Nagina, among others. Her last film was the 2017 release, Mom

On February 24, 2018, she was found dead of an accidental drowning in her guest room at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel in Dubai. She was married to film producer Boney Kapoor, with whom she had two children, actors Janhvi Kapoor and Kushi Kapoor.
