The trailer of R Balki’s Ghoomer starring Saiyami Kher and Abhishek Bachchan in the leads was unveiled on Friday. The film tells the story of Anina (Saiyami), a batsman and how she gets back into the sport after losing her right arm. Besides Saiyami and Abhishek, the film also stars Shabana Azmi and Angad Bedi.

Abhishek Bachchan plays Saiyami’s coach in the film. In what can be described as a drunk soliloquy, he narrates her story, stating, “Sometimes in life there is no logic, only magic.” We see Saiyami as a swinging and soaring batsman. She gets selected for team India but then, tragedy strikes and she loses her right arm. As she is down and desolate, Abhishek’s character provides tough love (“You want to hang yourself? It’s going to be difficult with one hand”). He pulls her up and motivates her to become a left-arm bowler. We then see Saiyami’s Anina, in typical training montages, pruning trees with a sickle and also pulling a wheelbarrow with her left hand. Abhishek’s character continues with his tale, “I know how a loser feels, but I also want to know how a winner does.” Amitabh Bachchan is also seen in the trailer.

Ghoomer is inspired by the story of Karoly Takacs, the late Hungarian right-hand shooter who won two Olympic gold medals with his left hand after his other one was seriously injured. The film will open 14th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) which is being held from August 11 to 20. The technical crew of Ghoomer consists of Vishal Sinha as the cinematographer, with Amit Trivedi scoring the music. It will get a theatrical release in India on August 18.
