Saif Ali Khan on 'insane' pricing of Bollywood artists: We pay people astronomically and the returns have been not good

Saif Ali Khan has addressed the box-office failure of his last release, Vikram Vedha, saying he has 'no idea' why the film did not do well.

A Hindi remake of the 2017 Tamil hit of the same name, Vikram Vedha starred Saif and Hrithik Roshan as leads. The film, despite a promising pre-Dussehra release, could not recover its 100-crore-plus budget at the box office.

In a recent interview with CNBC-TV18, Saif was quoted as saying, "The reason we should be very polite to each other is because nobody has any clue of what works and doesn't work."

However, asked about the general trend of big-ticket Bollywood releases failing to work, Saif added, "I have no idea but something is happening. People will continue to make movies. Prices will keep fluctuating because our pricing, some of it, is insane. We pay people astronomically and the returns have been not good.”

Saif portrays Lankesh, based on Ravana, in Om Raut's upcoming Ramayana adaptation Adipurush. The film, which also stars Prabhas and Kriti Sanon, has been postponed following backlash over its sub-par visual effects. It will now release on June 16, 2023.
