Ajay Devgn's Drishyam 2 collects Rs 15 crore on day one

Drishyam 2, the Ajay Devgn starrer Hindi remake of Malayalam film by the same name released in theatres on Friday to positive reception. The film has collected Rs 15.38 crore on its first day of release, the makers revealed on social media.

The film is directed by Abhishek Pathak and produced by Panorama Studios.

“The movie has garnered critical acclaim and excellent word of mouth. The footfall at theatres have increased to the point that multiplex chains have added midnight shows to fulfil the demand for 'Drishyam 2,” the production banner said in a statement as per PTI.

Drishyam 2 is sequel to Ajay's 2015 crime thriller Drishyam, which itself was a remake of Malayalam film by the same name starring Mohanlal under Jeethu Joseph directorial. The sequel to the Malayalam film released in February last year.

The story centres around a family of four who are on a mission to cover up a crime which was done to defend the elder daughter of the family from an unfortunate incident. While Mohanlal played the father in Malayalam version, Ajay reprised his role in Hindi. Alongside Ajay, the film also stars Shriya Saran, Rajat Kapoor, and Ishita Dutta, besides the new entrant Akshaye Khanna.

Drishyam 2 is currently running in theatres.
