Director Anurag Basu has denied rumours of working with Aamir Khan and Ranbir Kapoor in his next film.

A recent report claimed Anurag was developing a script based on a concept by Aamir Khan Productions. The film was purportedly to star Aamir and Ranbir, who shared a scene in the climax of Rajkumar Hirani's PK (2014).

However, Anurag on Saturday tweeted about the reports, sounding surprised by the news.

"Woke up to the news of my new film with Amir and Ranbir... Wish it was true!" he wrote, denying the development.

Anurag had directed Ranbir in the delightfully whimsical Barfi (2012). The two had tried reworking the formula in Jagga Jasoos (2017), with diminishing returns. A third film together, a biopic on Kishore Kumar, was mooted but is yet to materialize.

Aamir's upcoming release is Laal Singh Chaddha. The film, slated for release on August 11, is the official Indian adaptation of Forrest Gump.
