Anurag Kashyap's Dobaaraa opened the London Indian Film Festival last week. Anurag along with his actors Taapsee Pannu and Pavail Gulati later sat down for a Q&A at the BFI Southbank. 
 
During the conversation, Anurag was asked a question about the role of OTT platforms in enabling his kind of cinema.
 
The director, sounding ambivalent, responded: "I like the longform storytelling. But (we) are dealing with a kind of atmosphere were one is very restricted in the kind of drama one can do. Right now we cannot do anything remotely political or that deals with religion. There are lots of big nos, not because anybody has said you can't do that. It's because everybody is living in an atmosphere where they don't know how anybody is going to react." 
 
Anurag had co-directed the 2018 series Sacred Games, which announced Netflix's arrival in India. He followed it up with Lust Stories, Sacred Games Season 2, Ghost Stories and Choked on the platform. 
 
Earlier this year, during a masterclass at the International Film Festival of Kerala, Anurag had said that streaming platforms like Netflix supported Indian filmmakers before the (controversial) Amazon Prime series Tandav happened.
 
Dobaaraa is a remake of the 2018 Spanish mystery Mirage. The film is set to release in India on August 19.
