Earlier this year, Sony Pictures India announced a big-screen adaptation of Shaktimaan. The popular homegrown superhero television series from the 90s is getting a film. And now, according to a report in India Today, actor Ranveer Singh has been approached to fill Mukesh Khanna's shoes in the franchise adaptation. According to the report, Ranveer has shown in interest in playing the superhero. The actor, however, is yet to sign on the dotted line, the report adds.

The Shaktimaan adaptation will be a trilogy, much like Ayan Mukerji's forthcoming Brahmastra franchise.

Interestingly, some years ago, there was talk of Ranveer Singh playing comicbook superhero Nagraj in a series. It was meant to be backed by Dharma Productions.

Shaktimaan had a 520-episode run on DD National, from 1997 to 2005. Mukesh Khanna played the upright, chakra-embossed superhero, as well as his dweeby photojournalist alter ego Gangadhar. The show spawned an animated series in 2011, followed by a television film, Hamara Hero Shaktimaan, in 2013.
