Director Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra Part One: Shiva was the most searched Indian film of 2022. As per Google search engine’s ‘Year in Search 2022’, a rundown of the biggest trends in search it saw over the past 11+ months, the Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt film was followed by KGF: Chapter 2, The Kashmir Files, RRR and Kantara.

Brahmastra, which also starred Mouni Roy, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, and an extended cameo by Shah Rukh Khan, earned over Rs 400 crore. Given its scale, it was a hugely anticipated film and hence, led the search charts for all Indian movies this year. It was followed by Yash-starrer Kannada blockbuster KGF: Chapter 2, which is the highest-grossing Indian film of the year. Vivek Agnihotri’s controversial film The Kashmir Files was the third on the list.

Four south films follow with RRR at 4, Kantara at 5, Pushpa: The Rise at 6 and Kamal Haasan’s comeback Tamil venture Vikram at 7. The final three films on the list were Aamir Khan’s box office dud Laal Singh Chaddha, Ajay Devgn’s monster hit Drishyam 2 and the only Hollywood entry—Thor: Love and Thunder.

Last year’s most-searched film was Jai Bhim, followed by Shershaah and Salman Khan’s Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai. Coincidentally, the original Malayalam language Drishyam 2 also ranked number nine on the 2021 list.
