If you have said something in the past, it will surely haunt you: Anupam Kher on Aamir Khan

Actor Anupam Kher has responded to the boycott trends against Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha. The veteran actor had worked with Aamir in films like Dil, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, Rang De Basanti and others.

When asked about the festering boycott culture, Anupam was quoted as saying by India Today, "If someone feels that they should start a trend, they are free to do so. There are new trends on Twitter every day.”

Speaking of Aamir, the actor added that "If you have said something in the past, it will surely haunt you.”

Aamir had, in 2015, spoken out against growing intolerance in the country, receiving widespread criticism for the same. The statement was dug up recently and paraded as the reason for the #BoycotLaalSinghChaddha campaign.

A shortened version of Aamir's past statement reads, "When I chat with Kiran (Rao, his then-wife) at home, she says ‘Should we move out of India?’ That’s a disastrous and big statement for Kiran to make. She fears for her child. She fears about what the atmosphere around us will be. She feels scared to open the newspapers every day.

“That does indicate that there is this sense of growing disquiet, there is growing despondency apart from alarm. You feel why this is happening, you feel low. That sense does exist in me."

Back then, Anupam had criticised Aamir for his remarks, asking, "Dear @aamir_khan. Did you ask Kiran which country would she like to move out to? Did you tell her that this country has made you AAMIR KHAN.”
