Ranbir Kapoor’s latest comments on his pregnant wife Alia Bhatt has left netizens unimpressed. During a live session on social media, while promoting his film Brahmastra Part One: Shiva, Ranbir, Alia and director Ayan Mukerji were seen talking and answering audience’s questions.

While answering why they are not promoting Brahmastra in the way they do for other movies, Alia said, “We will promote the film, and we will be everywhere but if the question you are asking is why we are not phailaod (talking about widespread promotion) everywhere, right now our focus is..." Ranbir Kapoor quickly pointed at his wife's baby bump and said, "well I can say somebody has phailaod (reference to her getting fat), adding he meant the comment as a joke.

This left both Alia and Ayan a bit stunned but the comment was brushed away in laughter.

Social media users, however, were not impressed. Several comments pointed out at how unnecessary this was. One comment read, “This is sad to watch." Another wrote, “I can’t believe he said that! Ranbir is a 40-year-old man child with no common sense. Alia deserves better."

People also commented about how this was “not funny at all’. One netizen wrote, “wtf was this. who talks like this about his own wife who is pregnant? i still remember his and Katrina’s interview during Jagga Jasoos, he was so disrespectful to her. and this was not funny, we didn’t laugh." Another wrote, “That was a disgusting joke to say to a pregnant woman."

Brahmastra earlier got into a controversy over Ranbir wearing shoes while entering a pandal.

The film also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna Akkineni and Mouni Roy. It is slated to release on September 9.
