SonyLIV has dropped the trailer for Maharani Season 2. Huma Qureshi returns as Rani Bharti, Chief Minister of Bihar, facing off new hurdles and adversaries as she fortifies her hold on the Hindi heartland.

The trailer for season 2 opens with a youth setting himself on fire—a reference to the anti-Mandal agitations in the 1990s, herein changed to 'Verma Commission'. Other political events from the time seep into the story, including a high-profile double suicide that shook the Bihar government. As her political opponents round on her, Rani faces an even stiffer challenge from Bheem (Sohum Shah), her husband and ex-CM of the state. "Just when you feel you've figured Bihar out," we're reminded in the trailer. "Bihar gives you a shock."

Maharani is loosely inspired by the lives of Rabri Devi and Lalu Prasad Yadav. The series is created by Subhash Kapoor. The new season is written by Subhash, Nandan Singh and Umashankar Singh.
