R Madhavan, Kay Kay Menon, Divyendu and Babil Khan come together for a series to be produced by Yash Raj Films. This is the production house's first outing for OTT, and the show titled The Railway Men is based on the Bhopal gas tragedy that occurred in 1984. The show is expected to release a year later in December 2022.

The show is directed by Shiv Rawail, son of filmmaker Rahul Rawail (Love Story, Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya). According to the tweet shared by YRF along with a teaser, this show will be a tribute to the unsung heroes -- railway workers -- of what is dubbed one of the biggest man-made disasters.

The teaser of the show was released on the same day the incident had occurred 37 years ago and the show is also slated to premiere on December 2, a year after the release of the teaser. The teaser also indicated that the show will not be about the perpetrators of the gas leak, but will centre on the "saviours".

The incident occurred on the night of December 2, when a gas leak exposed over 5,00,000 people to methyl isocyanate (MIC) gas. This incident left thousands of people partially injured and the immediate death toll was reported as 2,259. In 1991, the certified deaths caused by the gas leak were reported as 3,928.
