Nikkhil Advani: I gravitate towards real-life stories

CE Features

The trailer of Amazon Prime Video’s Mumbai Diaries 26/11 was launched recently.

The medical-drama series is created by Nikkhil Advani and co-directed by him and Nikhil Gonsalves. It tells the story of doctors, nurses, paramedics and hospital staff who worked during the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai. The series is led by Konkona Sen Sharma, Mohit Raina, Tina Desai, Shreya Dhanwanthary, Satyajeet Dubey and others.

During the pre-production stage, Nikkhil had the opportunity to interact with a few frontline warriors who saved Mumbai city post 26/11 attacks and understand their inspiring stories.

“I am a Mumbaikar and I love the city, it’s resilience, the fact that it never gives up, it never sleeps and all the lovely ways of describing the city but we tend to forget the people who are responsible for making it what it is," Nikkhil shares.

"When Aparna (Purohit) and I started talking about working on a show, we thought of making a medical drama. I told her let’s talk about guys who are at war every single day. And that’s what we have tried to do with ‘Mumbai Diaries’, to tell the stories of unlikely heroes who nobody actually talks about and takes them for granted."

He continues, “Fact is stranger than fiction. I am gravitated towards telling real-life stories. You just have to listen to people and their incredible stories. I have been fortunate enough to be allowed to do that, thanks to Amazon Prime Video."

Mumbai Diaries 26/11 will stream on Amazon Prime Video from September 9.
