Director Olivier Assayas's film The Wizard of the Kremlin, starring Jude Law and Paul Dano in important roles, is set to have its India premiere digitally after missing out on a theatrical release in the country. On Tuesday, ZEE5 announced that it will start streaming the film from September 25, Friday.

An adaptation of Giuliano da Empoli's 2022 novel of the same name, the film tells the story of a filmmaker named Vadim Baranov (Paul Dano) who is lured into the world of politics at a time when modern Russia is taking shape. The film also stars Jude Law as Vladimir Putin, who transitions into power in the turbulent period post the Soviet Union.

In a poster that ZEE5 shared while announcing the The Wizard of the Kremlin India release date, a piece of text describes it as "the story of a man who stands at the centre of global power."

The film has a screenplay by Assayas and Emmanuel Carrere that is based on Empoli's eponymous novel, published at the start of the Russia-Ukraine war. Teasing the themes of the film, the streamer further added, "When power is the game, influence becomes the ultimate weapon. Step into The Wizard of the Kremlin, premieres 25th September on ZEE5."

Also starring Zach Galifianakis, Tom Sturridge, and Alicia Vikander, among others, the political satire is set to have a delayed release in India. The film had its theatrical release in many parts of the world earlier this 2026, after its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival in August last year. Since then, the film has received mostly mixed critical feedback, with reviewers calling out its narrative, characterisation and pacing while praising the performances.
