Sony Pictures and Story Kitchen are developing a live-action feature film of the video game The Drifter. Produced by Story Kitchen's Dmitri M Johnson and Michael Lawrence Goldberg, The Drifter is a pulpy adventure video game that follows a nomadic drifter who is fighting for survival after witnessing a brutal murder and being drowned by high-tech soldiers. His fight for survival also forces his discovery of a dark conspiracy that involves murky corporations and an unhinged person's obsession.

The primary character of the game somehow acquires the ability to wake up after his murder and jump back into his own body moments before his death to uncover the conspiracy surrounding his murder.

Story Kitchen is no stranger to adapting video games for the screen. The banner is behind the upcoming productions, including different Tomb Raider projects both for Netflix and Prime Video; Life is Strange (Prime Video), Just Cause (Universal), and Sega's classic 1990s game Streets of Rage for Lionsgate.

The Drifter game is developed and published by the Australian game studio Powerhoof.
