Netflix has announced a new Stranger Things spinoff, titled Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure. The streamer has announced that the upcoming series will premiere in 2028.
Stranger Things' creators Matt and Ross Duffer, known as the Duffer Brothers, have created Other Worlds with writer Kate Trefry. Apart from working as a writer on Stranger Things, Trefry has also worked on its stage spinoff Stranger Things: The First Shadow.
Joe Wright, who is known for directing Pride & Prejudice (2005) and Atonement (2007), is directing the first three episodes of Other Worlds. Wright and Trefry serve as executive producers along with The Duffer Brothers, who back the series under the Upside Down banner, Shawn Levy, under his 21 Laps banner, Paul Dichter, Shelley Meals, Andrea Sperling, and Pavlina Hatoupis.
A short announcement teaser, featuring 'Sh-Boom' ('Life Could Be a Dream') by The Chords, introduces the viewers to the setting of the series, Marion, Nevada on April 19, 1955. In the dark hours of that day, we see a downed bicycle with a radio playing the song, in front of the fence of a military base, when the clouds are suddenly parted by a boom.
Speaking to Netflix about Other Worlds, the Duffer Brothers said, "We’ve been dreaming of Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure for many years now, and to see it become a reality is surreal and exhilarating. It’s Stranger Things, but also thrillingly fresh, with a new setting, new heroes and villains, and new … actually, we’re not allowed to say any more. Now, on to casting. In the meantime — watch the skies, nerds!"
Apart from Other Worlds, another spinoff, Stranger Things: Tales from '85 premiered earlier this year.
