On Tuesday, Netflix announced a new film titled Dogfight that is set to star Jason Statham and will be written and directed by Guy Ritchie. Set in London's criminal world, the film is officially described as "an action-packed revenge thriller with a stylish twist."
It brings Statham and Ritchie back together after collaborations on films such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998), Snatch (2000), Revolver (2005), Wrath of Man (2021), and Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre (2023). The actor also stars in the director's other upcoming film Viva La Madness.
Notably, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels marked Jason Statham's acting debut and won him much appreciation for his performance as a con artist. The actor would go on to play the lead role in a similar comedy Snatch, which also earned much critical appreciation. Both Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch are also set in London's criminal underworld.
Statham is also going to back the film under his Punch Palace Productions banner, alongside Ritchie and Ivan Atkinson of Toff Guy Films, and John Friedberg of Black Bear Pictures.
The makers are yet to reveal plot specifics. However, according to Netflix Tudum, it "will feature a cast of colorful criminals and plenty of thrilling action."
Dogfight reunites Ritchie with Netflix after the series The Gentlemen, the second season of which dropped on the streamer this September. Later that month, the second season of Ritchie's MobLand released on JioHotstar. The director's upcoming films include Wife and Dog. On the other hand, the actor's upcoming slate also has titles such as The Beekeeper 2 and Jason Statham Stole My Bike.
Coming back to Dogfight, production on the film is set to commence early next year in the United Kingdom.
