The line between satire and reality appears to be getting blurrier for The Boys creator Eric Kripke. The showrunner recently reacted with disbelief after learning about a real-life golden statue of US President Donald Trump unveiled at Trump National Doral Miami in Florida—a moment fans quickly compared to a striking visual from the latest episode of the hit series.

Kripke reshared news of the statue on Instagram with a shocked response: “Seriously, what the f—?” The reaction soon went viral, with many pointing out the similarities between Trump’s monument and the golden Homelander statue featured in the show.

Since premiering in 2019, The Boys has become known for using superheroes to mock celebrity worship, political extremism, unchecked corporate influence and authoritarian power. Antony Starr’s Homelander, in particular, has often been compared by viewers and critics to Trump because of his cult-like following and increasingly radical public persona.

Kripke has previously spoken about how difficult it has become for the writers of The Boys to exaggerate reality through satire. In several interviews, he admitted the creative team often worries certain plot points may appear too outrageous, only for real-world events to become even stranger before episodes are released.

The issue resurfaced again during discussions around the show’s fifth and final season, which premiered in April 2026. The latest season has drawn strong reactions for its direct political commentary and parallels to contemporary American politics.

Speaking to Polygon recently, Kripke recalled concerns from the writers’ room over a storyline in which Homelander begins viewing himself as a divine figure. “This is the episode where Homelander decides he’s going to be God,” he said, adding that the timing became even more surreal after AI-generated images portraying Trump as Jesus began circulating online just days before the episode aired.

“It’s just really hard to out-satire this world,” Kripke admitted.
