The Summer I Turned Pretty movie: Prime Video urges fans to stay away from sets

As anticipation builds around the upcoming The Summer I Turned Pretty film, Prime Video has issued a firm appeal to fans: stay away from the set.

Filming for the feature-length continuation, following the third season’s release last year, is currently in progress, with behind-the-scenes clips already surfacing online. But the growing frenzy has prompted the streamer to step in with a cautionary message about on-set disruptions.

In a joint Instagram post shared by Prime Video, Amazon MGM Studios and the show’s official page, the team wrote, “We love the excitement, but sharing locations and visiting the set disrupts filming and creates real safety concerns for our cast and crew. We’re working hard to create a protected bubble to make the best movie possible.” The note concluded with a request to fans: “Please help us protect the magic of Cousins until it’s ready to be shared.” The post was accompanied by a beachside visual spelling out “Privacy Please” in the sand.

This isn’t the first time the fandom has been urged to tread carefully. Ahead of season three, the platform had rolled out strict community guidelines to keep online conversations respectful. “Cousins is our safe place… Let’s keep the conversation kind this summer,” the earlier statement read, alongside a warning that there would be “ZERO tolerance” for harassment, hate speech, or any form of targeting cast and crew.

The film will see the return of its core cast, including Lola Tung, Christopher Briney and Gavin Casalegno, along with Sean Kaufman and Rain Spencer. Creator Jenny Han is once again closely involved, co-writing the screenplay with Sarah Kucserka and also directing the project.

While story details remain tightly guarded, the film is expected to continue Belly’s journey, particularly after her rekindled relationship with Conrad in the previous season. Speaking earlier about the decision to conclude the story with a film, Han said, “There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due.” She added, “I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision… and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans.”
