After the finale premiere of The Summer I Turned Pretty in September, Prime Video kept the interest in the series alive by announcing a movie conclusion for it. Many fans anticipated the film to be unveiled for Christmas this year. However, the show's writer, Jenny Han, has confirmed that the film will not be released anytime soon, let alone at Christmas.
Jenny, speaking at The Wrap’s 2025 Power Women Summit, said that she has completed the script for the movie and added, "We have not filmed anything yet." She reiterated that the post-production for season three was completed only in June this year, ruling out the possibility for a Christmas release.
She explained, “The show came out in July. It was really up to the last minute on the show, so we wouldn’t have had time to film the whole movie.” Previously, speaking immediately after the movie was announced, Jenny Han teased the plot of the film by saying, “I can say that there is another big milestone for Belly, so we'll continue with that journey.”
The third season finale, which marked the last episode of the entire series, premiered on Wednesday. Belly (Lola Tung) and Conrad (Christopher Briney) finally unite in Paris, returning back to their summer house in Cousins many years later.
The Summer I Turned Pretty also stars Gavin Casalegno, Jackie Chung, Sean Kaufman, Rain Spencer, David Iacono and Alfredo Narciso. Season Three was led by showrunners Jenny Han and Sarah Kucserka, who also executive produced alongside Karen Rosenfelt, Paul Lee, Hope Hartman, and Mads Hansen of wiip, with the series being co-produced by Amazon MGM Studios and wiip.
