The Simpsons is regarded as the longest-running animation show in the US. The sitcom has elements that are appropriate for a mature audience, including sex, alcohol, and violence. The Lego Movie, Despicable Me, The Wrong Guy, and The Monkey are some of the films with strong connections to the popular animation show.

Now, actor Curry Barker has revealed that his upcoming directorial venture, a horror film titled Obsession, is also inspired by the show. The horror film stars Michael Johnston as a young man who is in love with a woman, played by Inde Navarrette. However, as he attempts to make his longtime friend forge a romantic feeling with him with the so-called 'One Wish Willow' toy, things turn dangerous when a casual game of love becomes obsessive.

The recently released Obsession trailer puts a subversive spin on the genre, especially the use of the expression 'I love you'. The characters in the film say it to coerce others into loving them. The logline reads, "A hopeless romantic finds himself getting exactly what he asked for but soon discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price." On the other hand, the caption reads thus, "Be careful who you wish for."

Speaking about the film's themes, Barker said, "Horror lets you explore extreme ideas and emotions in a way that feels honest and visceral. Whether it’s obsession with a person or anything else, that idea of being completely consumed by something has always fascinated me, and horror felt like the right genre to explore that. Taking inspiration from a The Simpsons episode, that combination of obsession and a wish-based device really sparked the idea for the story."

While the horror film is slated for a May 15 release in US theatres, it is set for a May 29 release in theatres in India.
