Blumhouse, the studio behind many of today's popular horror films, dropped the trailer for its upcoming film Obsession on Wednesday. The film is written and directed by Curry Barker. It follows a youngster (Michael Johnston) who is in love with his childhood friend (Inde Navarrette). However, when he uses a mysterious toy known as 'One Wish Willow' in order to make her form a romantic connection with him, things take a dangerous turn as a game of love turns obsessive. In what appears to be a unique element, the trailer has multiple scenes where the woman compels the man to say, 'I love you'. The line is said with fear and not affection, putting a spin on traditional genre elements.

The official logline for the film reads thus: "A hopeless romantic finds himself getting exactly what he asked for but soon discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price." Meanwhile, the caption for the film reads, "Be careful who you wish for."

Obsession had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and already has many positive reviews from critics. In the poster, the makers use a critical consensus, which calls the film "an instant horror classic".

The film also stars Cooper Tomlinson, Andy Richter, and Megan Lawless, among others. It marks Barker's second film as a director, the first one being 2024's Milk and Serial. The film's producers include James Harris of Teashop Productions, Christian Mercuri of Capstone Pictures, Roman Viaris, and Haley Nicole Johnson of Under the Shell. On the other hand, executive producers include Jason Blum of Blumhouse, Mark Lane and Leonora Darby of Teashop Productions, and Ruzanna Kegeyan and David Haring of Capstone Pictures.

Obsession is slated for a May 15 release in theatres.
