A new trailer for The Odyssey, director Christopher Nolan's adaptation of Homer's epic poem of the same name, is out now. With the film set for a July 17 release in theatres, including IMAX screens, Nolan has started promotions for the film. In a recent interview, the filmmaker spoke about the challenges of filming in IMAX, adapting a foundational piece of literature for the big screen, the connection between Greek epics and superheroes, and dogs.

Speaking on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Nolan said that The Odyssey is "the ultimate dog story". The new trailer for the film offers a sneak-peek into Argos, who is the dog of King of Ithaca Odysseus, played by Matt Damon.

As for Nolan, the part featuring Argos is "one of the greatest moments in the story" about the King of Ithaca's arduous journey back home after The Trojan War.

Nolan said that the Argos portion is among the aspects of the story that kept him 'hooked' into it, because of his experience owning a dog recently. "I am a new dog owner. I am new to dogs. I have never had a dog growing up. I did not have a dog when my kids were young. We denied that, and as soon as they left for college, we got a dog," Nolan quipped. He also said that his children "were a little bitter" about the fact that he brought a dog home after denying the opportunity to have one. "But they love the dog too when they get to visit. I decided to do The Odyssey because it is the ultimate dog story," the filmmaker added.

The upcoming film is set to mark a return for Nolan to the cinemas three years after Oppenheimer, which won him a Best Director Oscar and a Best Picture Oscar.
