Alec Baldwin has onboarded the star-studded cast of the upcoming film Kockroach, joining Chris Hemsworth, Taron Egerton and Zazie Beetz in a key role.

An adaptation of the novel by William Lashner who wrote it under his pen name Tyler Knox, Kockroach revolves around a mysterious stranger who takes on New York’s criminal elite, transforming himself into a larger-than-life crime boss in a city.

A crime drama, Kockroach is directed by Matt Ross (Captain Fantastic) with a screenplay from Jonathan Ames, known for Bored to Death and You Were Never Really Here. Andrew Lazar, known for producing films like American Sniper, is backing the project under his Mad Chance production banner.

Filming is set to begin in April. Previously Channing Tatum was set to star in the crime-thriller, who was later replaced by Hemsworth.

On the technical team, Kockroach has production design by Colin Gibson, cinematography by Adam Arkapaw and VFX Supervision by Jonathan Dearing.

With Kockroach, Baldwin has signed his first major role in a long time since Rust (2024). The film was mired with major controversies after the actor accidentally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins during filming in 2021. He went through major legal hurdles and trauma in the aftermath of it. Although the case was ultimately dismissed, it created large ripples in his life and the last role that he acted in after Rust was Hollywood Heist, starring Mickey Rourke, Nick Cannon, and Tara Reid.
