Ahead of its film The Super Mario Galaxy Movie's April 03 release, Universal Pictures India organised a Mario parade in Mumbai on March 25, Wednesday. More than a hundred people attended the parade clad in Mario-inspired outfits and marched from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus to Azad Maidan. Thus, they paid homage to Super Mario and its nostalgic legacy with plenty of playful spirits and energy.
Interestingly, Jemimah Rodrigues, the hero of Indian women's cricket team's victorious World Cup campaign, brought her vibrant spirit to the culmination of the parade at Azad Maidan. Talking about it, Jemimah said, "Being part of Mario Day was honestly so nostalgic for me. Growing up with my brothers, it was always cricket in the ground or Mario on the TV. So being here today, seeing that same energy with so many fans, just felt really special. It’s crazy how something you grew up with still brings people together like this."
The event themed around Mario turned Mumbai into an even more immersive and bustling place, complete with many fun and interactive activities. It drove a large number of Super Mario film fans, including influencers and children, as they came clad in Mario-themed blues and reds.
Surprising the audience by entering through a box cube, Jemimah engaged with the large gathering with her infectious enthusiasm. Also attending the event were the artists who voiced the characters in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie in Hindi, including Shanoor Mirza (voice of Mario) and Ankur Javeri (voice of Luigi). Talking about the Super Mario parade in Mumbai, Shanoor Mirza stated, "Mario is a character that has connected generations across the world, and bringing him to life in Hindi has been an incredibly special journey for me. Seeing that same love translate so vividly on the streets of Mumbai today was surreal. The energy, the nostalgia, the fans, it truly felt like Mario had come to life in India."
Meanwhile, Warner Bros Discovery's VP and MD, Denzil Dias said, "There is a particular kind of joy that belongs to everyone at once, the kind you feel in a cricket ground when the whole country holds its breath together, or in a cinema when a family of strangers laughs at exactly the same moment. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie carries that feeling, and we wanted the celebration of its arrival in India to carry it too. Jemimah understands this instinctively. She does not just play cricket, she makes people feel something together. That is what she brings every time she walks onto a field. We wanted that feeling on the streets of her city, and today, that is exactly what we got."
