Earlier, we reported about Ryan Gosling expressing his desire to star in a Ghost Rider movie from Marvel Studios. While the project still awaits a green signal from the production house, Gosling recently spoke about it with some optimism.
Speaking on Josh Horowitz's podcast Happy Sad Confused, Gosling confirmed that he has had conversations with the studio about the project. "Some discussions have been had. It’s a complicated situation," he said. He also added, "We’ll keep hope alive."
When Gosling first revealed his interest in the project, Kevin Feige of Marvel Studios stated that he would like to rope in the actor for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Speaking to Horowitz on Happy Sad Confused back in the day, Feige said, "Hey man, if Ryan wants to be Ghost Rider … Gosling’s unbelievable. Ryan is amazing… I’d love to find a place for him in the MCU. He’s dressed up as Ken on Venice Beach and gets more press than giant movies coming out that weekend. It’s amazing." Notably, at the time, Ryan Gosling was in production for the film Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig and co-starring Margot Robbie and Emma Mackey, among others.
Nicolas Cage starred in the titular role of 2007's Ghost Rider. The film tells the story of a motorcycle enthusiast named Johnny Blaze (Cage) who undergoes a supernatural transformation in a bid to keep his father alive. Interestingly, the film also stars Eva Mendes, who is Gosling's current partner, as Johnny Blaze's longtime romantic interest, Roxanne Simpson.
Coming back to Gosling, the actor has multiple releases in the near future. On March 26, his film Project Hail Mary will hit theatres in India after its release elsewhere in the world. After that, on May 28 next year, his movie Star Wars: Starfighter will release theatrically.
