A musical biopic based on the iconic rock band Bon Jovi is currently in the works after Universal won a bidding war to develop a feature film on them who are known for their classic hits including 'Livin' on a Prayer', 'You Give Love a Bad Name', and 'It's My Life'.
Screenwriter Cody Brotter, who also penned the upcoming crypto thriller Killing Satoshi starring Pete Davidson and Casey Affleck, has been tapped to write the screenplay.
A director for the film has not been announced yet. The casting for the actors who will play the band members has also not been revealed.
The band's founding members include singer Jon Bon Jovi, keyboardist David Bryan and drummer Tico Torres, who are still part of the group. Guitarist Richie Sambora left the band in 2013, while bassist Alec John Such departed in 1994 and died in 2022.
Unlike The Beatles films, it is unclear which time period the film will focus on or if it will revolve around a defining moment in their journey or offer an overarching view of their rise to fame.
Kevin J Walsh and Gotham Chopra of Religion of Sports will produce the film. Universal's director of production development, Jacqueline Garell, will oversee the project for the studio.
Music biopics have gained significant popularity among audiences in recent years, with films like Bohemian Rhapsody, Elvis, and Bob Marley: One Love achieving strong box-office success.
Universal also owns the international distribution rights for the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic Michael, which is set to release in April. Meanwhile, filmmaker Sam Mendes is working on four interconnected films about the Beatles for Sony.
