Seven years after the release of Avengers: Endgame (2019), the main trio from the film's cast, Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, and Chris Hemsworth are returning for the upcoming event film, Avengers: Doomsday. While Hemsworth returns as Thor, Downey is taking on a new villaineous avatar as Victor von Doom/Dr Doom. But the fate of Evans' character takes an interesting path.

To provide the answer is Anthony Mackie, who took on the mantle of Captain America from Evans in the 2019 film. Speaking to Variety, at the San Diego Comic-Con, he said, "Steve Rogers in a comic book... there is a comic book. If you say you are a nerd, read the comic book. Don't be a nerd by trade be a nerd by fact. In the comic book, Steve Rogers becomes Nomad."

Nomad is a new moniker that Steve Rogers takes on after dropping the title of Captain America, after being disillusioned by the US Government. Avengers: Doomsday, is not confirmed to carry the same origin story of the character into the films.

In an earlier interview, Evans mentioned that the pitch for Steve Rogers' story to continue as Nomad was an idea in 2019, pitched by Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios.

Avengers: Doomsday is written and directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, who served as directors of Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). Opening in theatres on December 18, it will feature Marvel superheroes like the New Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Wakandans, Talokanil, and other heroes from three different universes going against Dr Doom.
