Marvel Studios finally unveiled the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, giving fans their biggest look yet at the upcoming crossover event led by the return of Robert Downey Jr, this time as the formidable Doctor Doom. While the footage confirms several major MCU and X-Men characters, one notable absence has sparked fresh speculation: Tom Holland's Spider-Man.
Despite months of fan theories, Spider-Man has not been announced as part of the film's cast, nor does he appear in the newly released trailer. As things stand, there is no official confirmation that the web-slinger will feature in Avengers: Doomsday.
Instead, Holland's immediate Marvel outing remains Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth solo film in the franchise. Scheduled to release ahead of Doomsday, the film is expected to continue Peter Parker's story on a more grounded, street-level scale following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Although Marvel has not commented on Spider-Man's absence, industry observers have pointed to a possible scheduling conflict. Avengers: Doomsday and Spider-Man: Brand New Day reportedly filmed during overlapping periods in 2025, making it difficult for Holland to take on a substantial role in both projects simultaneously. Since he headlines Brand New Day, any appearance in Doomsday, if it exists at all, could be limited.
Another character whose status remains uncertain is Lewis Pullman's Sentry. While the superhero made his MCU debut in Thunderbolts and is expected to play a key role in the franchise's future, Marvel has not included him in the officially announced Doomsday cast or trailer, leaving fans guessing whether his involvement is being kept under wraps.
The ensemble announced so far includes Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), James Marsden (Cyclops), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), Channing Tatum (Gambit), David Harbour, Danny Ramirez, Winston Duke, Hannah John-Kamen, among others.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Doomsday marks the filmmakers' return to the MCU after Avengers: Endgame (2019). The screenplay has been penned by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely. The film is slated to release in theatres on December 18.
