At the 83rd Golden Globe Awards event on Sunday, Owen Cooper took home three awards for his performance in the Netflix series, Adolescence. The young actor also scripted history by becoming the youngest winner in the best male actor in a supporting role on television category. By receiving the award at 16, he beats Chris Colfer, who won the award for Glee in 2010 when he was 20.
The Golden Globe marks a hattrick for Owen, who previously bagged the Emmy for outstanding supporting actor in a limited or anthology series or movie. When he won that award, it made him the youngest male ever to win an acting award in Emmy history. This Golden Globe also makes him the second-youngest male award winner of all time, after Ricky Schroder, who won the award for The Champ in 1980 at the mere age of 9.
Apart from the Emmy and the Golden Globe, Cooper also won the Critics’ Choice Award and the Gotham TV Award and has received a nomination for SAG-AFTRA’s Actor Award. He was nominated alongside Ashley Walters (Adolescence), Billy Crudup (The Morning Show), Jason Isaacs (The White Lotus), Tramell Tillman (Severance), and Walton Goggins (The White Lotus) for the Golden Globes.
In Stephen Graham's Adolescence, Cooper portrayed Jamie Miller, who is arrested for murdering a schoolmate. The series received five Golden Globe nominations, including best performance by a male actor in a limited series, anthology series or a motion picture made for television (Stephen Graham); best performance by a female actor in a supporting role on television (Erin Doherty); and best television limited series, anthology series or a motion picture made for television, apart from Cooper and Walters.
The series ended up bagging four out of five awards. Apart from Cooper, Stephen Graham won the award, and so did Erin Doherty, with the series bagging the overall award for best television limited series.
